Gotmerchant
About:
Gotmerchant.com is based in Denton, Texas, and dates to 1998 when it was founded as web hosting company called Simple Solutions (www.sshost.com). To fill what they saw as an information gap on credit card processing companies they published an online guide called "Got Merchant Accounts" and the name changed in 2001 to Gotmerchant.com. After a time of partnering to provide merchant accounts, they went it alone in 2003 to have greater control over customer service and customer relations.
Pros:
They handle multi-million dollar companies to startups. Gotmerchant.com has many favorable testimonials on its Web site, particularly for responsive and courteous customer service. They have a free application and setup fee, handle the major credit cards with free American Express setup, free re-programming fee, free monthly maintenance fee (a Monthly Service Fee is $10), and the customer service fee is also free. A variety of equipment is available, some of it for free. The company offers seasonal downtime and the merchant-friendly Interchange-plus pricing is offered to all (varying terms and conditions apply). Most funds are available within two business days after settlement. The company has an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau with—zero complaints! And we found no complaints at any of the complaint Web sites we view.
Cons:
Not necessarily negatives, but we felt compelled to say at least something for this category! The contract length is 2 years and has a $250 cancellation fee but there is flexibility and month-to-month can be negotiated. Regular customer service is 9 to 6 Monday through Friday, but after hours numbers can be contacted at any time. Most of their customers are e-commerce, but they have a full roster of services with all customers welcome, including retail.
Conclusion:
They say things are bigger and better in Texas, where the company is based. Well, Gotmerchant.com is not one of the biggest companies but they are among the best for your merchant processing needs.
The company is not only committed to excellence in customer service, they apparently deliver it! Gotmerchant.com is what you'd call a "straight shooter" in their dealings—forthcoming and upfront about rates, fees, and terms—no surprises. Rates, fees, and terms are competitive and disclosed. (But, as always, check your contract and still ask questions!) Gotmerchant.com also offers a degree of flexibility, so the old adage, "It never hurts to ask" fully comes into play here. In the old "Westerns"—the cowboy movies—the good guys wore white hats, the bad guys black hats. These guys don't even seem to wear gray hats.
